Ok, it's been quite a while since I've posted, but now is the perfect time for me to post. The snow has blessed me with a 5 day weekend (we've already been notified that school is closed on Wed. the 4th), so I feel like it's time for me to get off my butt (or get ON by butt actually) and blog!
I'm excited because I just ordered sock yarn and size 2 double point knitting needles to start knitting my first pair of socks. I should get the yarn this week, yay! The yarn is Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in the colorway Rainbow. I really wanted to get the rainbow for one pair and a stripey pink colorway for another pair, but the skeins are $11 each and you need 2 skeins for a pair of socks.
I've heard people who don't knit say, "Oh, I bet it saves money to knit stuff yourself." Until you knit, you don't realize how much REAL yarn costs. People who knit don't do it to save money, I mean a $22 pair of socks... come on, but we do it because we enjoy doing it and/or because what you end up with is better than what you would buy at the store. I hear that hand knit socks are amazing, and I do LOVE socks!
Socks are how I express my wackiness. Wearing loud, bright outfits would distract the students and I'll do anything I can to keep the kids from being hyper, but I can wear wacky socks safely. I've gotten better lately, but previously I have paid absolutely no attention to whether or not my socks match my outfit. Lately I try to at least keep it in the same general color family. My favorite socks are a pair of cotton blend rainbow stripe socks from Old Navy. I loved them so much, I bought 2 identical pairs! I can't wait to get the yarn and start on a pair of superwash wool rainbow stripe socks!
